Luxepitality meets Rita Martins

Owner and founder of RMG Guest House

Don’t be swayed by the words Guest House, as this is no ordinary guest house. RMG Guest house is a Chic, fun, exceptionally designed and curated experience.

Tell us a bit about your background and how you came to open the RMG Guest House.

I used to work in a totally different industry, I was manager in bank.  My husband, Romeu Martins, is an architect and has always dreamt of creating a hotel. Since we both love to travel I started embracing the idea, but with a slight change. I wanted a “gourmet” unit so we can mingle with guests and offer a truly personalised experience to each one of our guests.

What was the inspiration for the design?

I’m a fashionista and I love to travel. So when me and Romeu decided to go on this new adventure those themes came up. At our (Guest) House you can find part of our collection – from books, bags, shoes, perfumes… We have been lucky to travel to wonderful places, each destination has inspired us somehow. The design reflects just that: comfortable beds, personalised furniture and, of course, our signature pets: a pink Dalmatian, a yellow pig, giant ants and yellow French bulldog.

Tell us where you are based and why we should visit?

We are based in Setúbal, close to Lisbon, amazing beaches and a gorgeous Natural Park. We are in the heart of the city perfect to discover the city at your own pace. We are sure you will be amazed and will leave in love with our region.

You have experiences that you have created for your guest, tell us about two of your favourite ones.

All our experiences are custom made to suit the needs and desires of our guests,  the sky is the limit. But  if I had to choose two of my favourite experiences I would say a tour to the wineries completed with a tasting. We are in one of Portugal’s best wine regions influenced by the ocean and the quality of our soils. The only region producing the delicious and rich Moscatel Roxo. As we are by the river and sea I can’t escape from a boat tour. If we are lucky dolphins may be seen. A refreshing dive in the ocean or oyster production are also great options.

What’s the loft?

The Loft is a self catering unit fully equipped for independent travellers. Ideally located in a residential area offers you everything to live like a truly local: restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries all you can need. The Loft has two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchenette and parking place.

Is there anything new planned that you would like to tell us about?

A well kept secret. No comments… yet!

When you travel where do you like to go to?

I’m very eclectic snow, beach, cities you name it. The point is I love travel!

Where have you not been yet that you are looking forward to visiting.

Australia has been on my radar for a while. Indeed I had plans to visit this year but didn’t manage. Hopefully I will do a family trip to Australia – I have the all tour  in my head!

Tell us 5 things that you never travel without.

Mobile phone and laptop – one most always be reachable and also I’m a workaholic! Face moisturiser, sunglasses and my watch.
