Sitting Pretty: Adonis Hotel

A former bakery offers a 5-star service, Apple Tvs, free cocktails and minibar – we are sold!

In Singapore, luxury hotels are aplenty. But for a more intimate experience and extra privacy, why not check out one of the boutique hotels in Singapore instead? The boutique hotel industry is flourishing in Singapore, offering a comfortable stay in uniquely designed interiors, often with many trimmings of a bigger luxury hotel.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:

With a cosy number of just 19 rooms, Adonis Hotel firmly places its focus on providing guests with personalised services and offering some extra luxuries, like a free minibar, that includes soft and alcoholic beverages, Nespresso Pixie coffee machine, a selection of wellness teas, Apple TVs, turndown service with chocolate treats placed on the duvet, the highest quality toiletries, that include even a face peeling cream and a facewash. To add more to that, the guests are invited for a free happy hour, where they can enjoy drinks and cocktails between XYZ o’clock.

Located in an old shop house just moments from the Beach Road and Raffles Hotel, Adonis is a great place to experience the charm of the heritage Purvis street, brimming with cafes, boutique shops and cosy restaurants. The front of the hotel is a restaurant, too. It is a trattoria-style Italian outfit, that proudly offers its pizzas from an authentic wooden oven. If a brief breakfast menu, served till 10.30 am, is not to your liking, the chef is willing to shop for your order. All you need to do is give him a notice the day before.

SUITES:

The hotel preserved its shop-house architecture, so no alterations to the original design has been made. Rather, the new concept was built around the structure of yesteryear. While the size of all 16 rooms and 3 suites is rather petite, guests will be not missing out on comfort. Our ARTIST suite featured a spacious green terrace, overlooking Singapore’s eponymous skyline. There was something satisfyingly decadent about running a hot foamy bath and relaxing in scented soft water with a glass of wine after a flight. The design will bring happiness to lovers of understated luxury: Adonis’s clean interior is fuss free, but all details are of great quality. Special mention goes to the beds: they are so comfy; guests often ask the front desk to buy one for themselves. The secret is, however, in Slumberland mattresses and the highest-quality mattress toppers, that help you to relax and unwind. Along with firm duck feather and micro-fibre pillows, this bed is a dangerous trap for those who come to Singapore to explore – you might want to stay in all day.

THE STORY:

Once a well-known bakery, that belonged to the current owner’s grandmother, hotel Adonis definitely tells an interesting story. The matriarch of the Wang clan, current proprietors, was known in the neighbourhood for her delicious moon cakes and warm hospitality. Back in the 1920s immigrants would get off their boats just meters away from where the hotel stands now; new to Singapore, often without friends or connections to help them, they relied on her help to set up in a new place and finding a more permanent abode. Back then it was called HH; the current hotel’s name, Adonis, was borrowed from the Wangs’ other business – beauty. “Adonis Beauty” is one of the most well – known beauty brands in Singapore, so it comes as no surprise, that the carefully formulated toiletries offered in Adonis are one of the best ones you will ever get in any hotel.
